Betway, the title sponsor of the Betway Premiership, has partenered with South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) on Wednesday, 6 November, to launch National Responsible Gambling Month. The announcement was made at a media briefing at the PSL headquarters in Johannesburg, attended by key figures including PSL Chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza, Betway CEO South Africa Laurence Michel, and Executive Director of the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF), Sibongile Simelane-Quntana.
Since becoming the title sponsor of the Premiership, Betway has consistently demonstrated its commitment to Africa’s largest football league with a strong focus on education and a firm stance against irresponsible gambling.
With National Responsible Gambling Month taking place in November, the Betway Premiership offers an ideal platform for the league’s title sponsor, in association with the PSL, to amplify its Bet Responsibly message. Throughout the month, this enhanced focus will be featured across Betway’s marketing channels, reinforcing brand’s commitment to responsible gambling.
Betway’s continued commitment to responsible gambling
Laurence Michel, CEO of Betway South Africa, highlighted the company’s continued commitment to promote responsible gambling as part of their sponsorship of the Betway Premiership. Michel stated: “As proud title sponsors, we are committed to educating our customers and the South African public on the importance of responsible gambling. Through our partnership with the PSL, we are reinforcing our message of ‘Bet Responsibly’ to football fans and customers, not just in November but throughout the year.”
Betway’s dedication to promote responsible gambling was recently recognised at the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation’s 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner, where the globally renowned brand received the award for Best Responsible Gambling Operator Messaging and Marketing Campaign.
SARGF partners with Betway and PSL to raise awareness
Sibongile Simelane-Quntana, Executive Director of South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF), emphasised the foundation’s focus on advocating for the well-being of gamblers and their families.
Sibongile Simelane stated: “The South African Responsible Gambling Foundation’s mandate is to prioritise the well-being of gamblers and their families by leading advocacy and raising awareness about responsible gambling.
“Collaborating with Betway and the PSL during National Responsible Gambling Month is part of our effort to highlight not only the potential risks of problem gambling but also the availability of free support services – such as counselling and treatment – for those facing gambling addiction.”
Betway’s growing sports collaborations
This initiative follows a series of top-level partnerships for Betway in 2023, including its recent appointment as the official betting partner for Chelsea, Bologna FC, and Nottingham Forest. The company’s ongoing commitment to promoting responsible gambling continues to be a key focus across its sponsorships in the sports industry.
